This workshop, we will explore the clinical frameworks for understanding and responding to body dysphoria and shame. We will use these frameworks to integrate intrapsychic, interpersonal and systemic healing.
As clinicians, community members, and activists, we know systems of oppression are the undercurrent of all of the work that we do. We know that woundedness and wellness are shaped in that undercurrent and that so much of that woundedness is expressed through the body.
In this book Sonya Renee Taylor posits that the relationship between the self and the body is our first and most important point of intervention in responding to systems of oppression. This framework challenges us not to accept or circumvent body shame but instead to engage with body shame as the foundation of individual and systemic change.
